July 24, 201213 yr I am trying to add 2 new hard drives to an array of 3 drives, parity and warm swap cache. All drives are the seagate 3TB drives. I just completed a badblocks scan as well as a preclear. There were no problems with the drives. Here is what I have done using the web interface: - rebooted the server - stopped the array - added both of the drives - tried to start the array When I try to start the array, the page refreshes then nothing. Once i un-assign the new disk, the array will start fine. Additionally, I have tried: - trying to add the drives one at a time - checking the connections - formatting a drive - formatting then mounting a partition I'm not sure what else to do at this point. Could both of the new drives somehow be broken or incompatible? Is there any more information I can provide about my setup that would help? Thanks.
July 25, 201213 yr Author Sorry. Version - 5.0-rc5 I can't stop the array right now to get smart reports on the drives, but the 2 drives i just cleared seem to be fine, with values comparable to the other 5 i am currently using in the array. Syslog.zip
July 25, 201213 yr It sounds like the drives were not pre-cleared correctly and unRAID is clearing them. The array will be offline until the drives are cleared. Formatting the disk is a non-starter because unRAID will then definitely clear the drive itself.

Earlier versions did not know how to properly put a signature on disks >2.2TB. Look in your /boot/preclear_reportsfolder. You should see the reports on the last preclear you ran on the disk. Joe L.
July 26, 201213 yr Author According to the preclear script, I am running version 1.13. I have not been able to find a newer version. I ran the script again on the 2 disks without any errors and the same problem continues. Also, there is no indication that the drives are being cleared in any way after I push start. The screen just refreshes. I am only running the packages that are recommended on the setup guide, but I have read that you should shut down all plugins. Is there an easy way to do that? I have included my most recent log. Syslog.zip

Revert your config/go script back to its original form. rename the /boot/extra folder to something else. rename the /boot/config/plugins folder to something else. Then reboot. One, (or more than one) or your add-ons is preventing your array from starting. This is a KNOWN issue with at least one of the add-ons. NONE are recommended by unRAID. Some were written before the current versions of unRAID and prevent it from starting properly. Consult their authors for help in the "customizations" forum.
July 26, 201213 yr Author That did the trick, thank you very much for all the help. At this point, should I try adding my add-ons back one at a time? I had installed a bunch of things when I first set up unraid. The only ones I would like to reinstall would be vmware tools and simplefeatures. Does anyone know of any current issues with these plugins that should prevent me from reinstalling them?

July 26, 201213 yr Author I had heard of the bug before, but like those posts said, should be harmless. Would it contribute to my array not starting? Should I be okay by adding simplefeatures back in without the email features?
