July 28, 201213 yr I took some time today to move my server to a new case to allow for hard drive upgrades in the future. At the same time I formatted my flash drive and reinstalled unraid. Booted up the PC and assigned the correct drives. Parity sync commenced. It is finding errors already which is my first concern. Drives are DEFINITELY assigned correctly. I stopped the parity sync to install APC plugin and to copy something from the array to one of my local pc's. This is where I noticed problem number two. Performance browsing folders on the array is extremely slow to the point of timing out at times. I cant even copy something from the array. I have now started parity sync again and am getting fluctuating speeds between and 5 and 15 MB a second for the parity sync. I normally get 50-70. Web interface is also sluggish. So the only things that have changed on the server are New copy of unraid software 5.0 rc5 ( same as previous version and all that has been installed is APC plugin. ) Reassigned disks correctly. I am attaching my syslog to this post so that people with more understanding than me can hopefully help out. Not sure whether it helps but access to the flash drive is very quick. Just the array drives are a problem. Also, if I telnet in telnet itself is responsive but running the "ls" command in a folder takes a good few seconds to return anything. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. syslog-2012-07-28.txt
July 28, 201213 yr Author Strangely it seems to have sorted itself out. Is it normal for unraid to be slow when first installed? If so what is it doing?
July 28, 201213 yr The most likely reasons for poor performance at, and soon after, startup are: 1) A parity check is running 2) cache_dirs is populating its cache.
