Help with build

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I've recently started looking for expandable storage solutions, consideres NAS boxes etc. But must say I like the concept of unRAID Server a lot. Reason for the storage is I have a working HTPC in my livingroom, while my main pc is in the bedroom I'd like to move data from my pc in the bedroom of to a server in a remote location :)

I've never meddled with linux before so hoping I could get some help choosing components that would absolutely work out of the box.

Leaning towards the Lian Li A17B case.

For CPU I'd like a core duo, so really only need help with motherboard and cpu. Will be adding 3-4 drives from the start.

Thanks in advance.

Tom sells fully assembled servers that yoiu might want to consider if you want something that will "absolutely work out of the box".

If you want to build your own, check out this thread.  molaqq has identified an excellent hardware configuration (IMO).  I added some comments with a couple ofher options.

Thanks, should've opened my eyes before posting I guess.

I would order the pre-built if it weren't because of me living in europe ;) I'd have to add around 200 bucks for shipment and 25% tax on top of the cost of the server :(
