July 31, 201213 yr Hi there, tomorrow ill be building up my Unraid System. Now i have my 4,5 TB of Data on a Drobo 2nd Gen. This sucks So stupid slow... The last 3 Days my macmini is copying all the data down from my drobo on temp Harddisks. When this is done. i will put the 4 2tb Drives in my UNRAID System and get it running. But whats the best way to get the data from the tempdrives on the unraid system? 1. Plug the Tempdrive in my computer and copy it over ethernet to the UNRAID System? 2. Plug the Tempdrive directly in the UNRAID System and copy it there? But how to do that? I have 3tb ripped down movies. That cannot by copied to one drive. The UNRAID System has to know that all the movies has to by in the SHARE "Movies" and the system should do the rest. Whats the way to do that? Thanks to all of you and welcome me at the UNRAID club Greetz Julian
July 31, 201213 yr If your running a gigabit LAN then I would plug the drives into main computer and copy over the network. I'm not sure about mac transfer programs but I would run a transfer with CRC checking to make sure your data is a 1:1 copy with no errors (that's just suggestion not requirement as it will typically double your transfer time). I am unclear if unRaid can read a mac formatted disk by default. On Windows format drives (NTFS) there is a plugin to allow unRaid to read the drive. If your not running gigabit I would wait to see if anyone else knows if you can put the drive directly in the unRaid computer. PS Welcome to unRaid
July 31, 201213 yr Author Ok thank you. A good idea can be configuring the array WITHOUT Parity and copy the data. If all my data is on the UNRAID system, i can enable the parity and build it. This would give me more writespeed for my first 4tb right?
August 1, 201213 yr It would but don't delete the data from the tempdisk until you do a verify on the data. Unraid can mount and read from apple but not automatically.
