has this happen to anyone else? hope my hardware can use this 3TB drive.

    I have seen this before.

     

    If you cant use the full 3tb drive, there are ways to partition it to 2.2TB and use with older hardware and unRAID 4.7

    That is how I got my 2 WD green 3TB drives.  I returned two bad 2TB drives (at different times) and got back the 3TBs.  That's how I also got a 1.5TB when I returned a 1TB.  I think they just send what they have on hand.  I've gotten both new and refurbished drives as well.
