August 8, 201213 yr Hi there, sometimes i would like to expand the usage of my unRaid Server by using some other Linux Software on it. As far as i have seen there are some ways to do it, whether by using unmenu, Slackware Packages in /boot/extra or the plugin system discussed. From what i have seen the two last ways are that ones which dont requier any additional Software at first (eg. unmenu). But what are the exact differences between those two ways? I just want to use the right way so the software i use may be also be useable in future unRaid Versions. Also is there any documentation on building Plugins or extra Packages for unRaid?
August 9, 201213 yr whatever you put in /boot/extra, they just get installed. Nothing more. Nothing less. This is for tgz/txz file Plugins are basically a script. It creates a file, settings, and run commands. These plugins are all plg files. I actually worked on creating subsonic plugin.. and from what I know, I couldn't really find much documentation about it. I just downloaded a plg file and basically analyzed it.
August 10, 201213 yr Author Yep thats the problem, there is no real documentation, you can only learn it by trial and error. Makes that a little bit problematic. I think it is easier to stick with the self installing slackware packages, that should be a bit easier, because it seems that you only have to edit the doinst.sh to fit your needs. Of course than you dont have any fancy settings page and so on in unRaid.
August 23, 201213 yr yea, ive come across the same question just the other day. no real documentation on the matter(s).
August 24, 201213 yr Plugins are still very beta right now. Limetech released one as a template and the community ran with it. The only thing that really has to be there are the <file> tags, anything you can dream up can be put between them.
