Quality Degradation with Multiple Users

Featured Replies

My unraid server is running version 4.2, on my home network with GB Lan.  I have three media center computers that access the data on the server for music and movies, all with GB access.  Everything works great until the second user starts accessing the server either for a second movie or music.  Everything starts to "hang" and get slow and jumpy at that time.  I've looked on the forums without any luck.  Any suggestions where I need to look at the server or the clients?  Thanks!

So long as you are not writing to the unRAID server, you should not have a problem with 3 streams from it, over a gigabit connection.  Let's see a syslog, see my sig.

See also Improving unRAID Performance.

I'd recommend posting more info about your computers, and (as RobJ suggested) posting a syslog from your unRAID server AFTER having two servers accessing the server at the same time and having performance issues.

Couple other questions ...

1.  Is unRAID doing a parity check while you are trying to access it?  (Confirm from the Web Gui)

2.  Do you have the problem when accessing files on the DIFFERENT physical disks, or when trying to access content on the SAME physical disk?

3.  Are you sure you are really getting gigabit speed?  Confirm you have a gigabit switch.

4.  Are you using your gigabit network for other purposes in your house?

Thanks for the suggestions.  I'll try the suggestions in the Improving Unraid Performance documentation and if unsuccessful post the logs and more information.  Thanks again!
