unRAID 5 RC5 and BackUps RS 1000 support

Featured Replies

I recently aquired a used  APC BackUps RS 1000 that I've attached to my unRAID server.  Unfortunately there weren't any data link cable with the UPS.

Today i finally found one! Atleast, I found a cable with USB in one end and a RJ-50 (10 pins) in the other, which I understand is what is normally used.

Plugged it in, installed the following packages from unMENU:

apcupsd-3.14.3-i486-1kjz.tgz

clean powerdown

I configured the apcupsd with:

NO

smart

10

5

300

YES

I then connected the server with the UPS on both power and the data link cable, and then I tried unplugging the power from the UPS (I did, however, stop the array so that I'd do minimal damage if the server didn't power down correctly). What should happen, If I understand it correctly is that the UPS will send a signal to the server to powerdown if it get's below 10% charge, only has 5 minuttes charge left OR 300 seconds passes without power comming back.

Nothing happened after 300 seconds though.

Is there any way I can check if the server can communicate with the UPS?

I some thread from 08 about the UPS software, I read that under System Information there should be some UPS info, but I can't seem to find it (I'm using Simple Features though?)

Bonus question: With the clean powerdown installed, I invoke the "Clean Powerdown" by using the normal "powerdown" command and then the old standard powerdown command is renamed to "unraid_powerdown" correct?

If you want to enable the ups daemon, you should use YES and not NO...

If all is working correct, info on ups runtime etc appears at the top of the screen.

I'd look for the apcupsd plugin, as that has an interface within simplefeatures, which will let you know if the device is connected.  You'll want to disable the unMENU package if you chose to go this way.

IIRC you can run apcaccess in a command line to see if there is communication with the device.

Thank you. Using apcaccess seems to show that I'm connected :)

I'll try and dissable the unmenu plugin and find another one for Simple Features.

I still need to have Clean Powerdown installed?

Great thanks :D It solved my problem.

Now I just need to figure out how to get it to send an email before shutdown... Already have set Simple Features to send status reports, so should be possible ;)
