Nothing to do with unRAID.

 

Im trying to backup a Debian Stable server to my backup box here. The problem is the versions are so different it fails out with screens of errors. I really dont want to apt pin on the stable box as I need it to be well stable.

 

Anyone suggest any route forward?

    are you talking about using rdiff backup on unRAID?  From what I know of this software there are some dependencies on librsync and python.

    The remote server is Debian Stable with the old version of  rdiff-backup and the local box is debian unstable.

     

    With versions that match closely everything is seemless but stable is ancient and bombs out spectacularly.
