$10 PCIe x1 JMB363 1xSATA, 1xeSATA, 1xPATA - what do you think?

Recommended Posts

What do you think about this controller card? http://www.ebay.com/itm/eSATA-SATA-II-IDE-3-5-RAID-to-PCI-E-PCI-Express-Converter-Adapter-Card-JMB363-/170896398891?pt=US_Drive_Cables_dapters&hash=item27ca381a2b

I think it's the cheapest one available at the moment. Except for the minor inconvenience with the eSATA (there is a version with two internal SATA ports, but it's more expensive and with $32 shipping :-/ ) it should work well in unRAID 4.7 server, right?

If I understand, You are looking for a 2 port PCIe SATA card for use in 4.7?

Have you looked at this card? http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=104&cp_id=10407&cs_id=1040702&p_id=2530&seq=1&format=2

It is only a few dollars more It comes from a reputable store (no shady ebay sellers), Lifetime warranty, you will probably get it sooner, no external to internal cable routing and I am pretty sure it is on Rajahal's recommended hardware list.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm looking for.

I already have that card (although with a different branding), but SiL3132 chipset is no longer recommended - check this out: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=18428.msg167122#msg167122 - that's why I'm looking for a new one.

Plus Monoprice is not an option for me, because shipping to Europe would probably cost much more than this card itself, and I've found those "shady ebay sellers" to be quite reliable :-)

Anyway, thanks for your input, Johnm!

What about these cards?:

1) $10 for 2 x SATA2 and 1xIDE with JMB363 chip set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/180675614643

2) $13 for 2 x SATA3 with ASM1061 chip set: http://www.ebay.com/itm/271014212269

I've also had my eye on that monoprice SIL3132 card, but I understand that the SIL3132 chipset has a max bandwith of 75-88 MB/s per port?

Anyone have experience with the cards/chipsets above?

Nice! I've been looking for something like this, but been able to find it only with much higher total cost (price+shipping), so that's much appreciated.

That's also a good card/controller, but:

1. AFAIK ASM1061 works only in 5.0, so that's no good for me

2. I'm thinking about upgrading my motherboard, and I'll probably do this with ASRock B75 Pro3. That mobo already has ASM1061 chip built-in, and I've read somewhere on this forum that having a second ASM1061 controller in your rig makes unRAID crash or something like that. I'm not sure about this, but I strongly belive that I've seen such warning around here.

If you can buy one that doesn't silently corrupts your data (that's possible - not every single one controller card based on this chipset does that, but that's a gamble), it'll work OOTB, but what you're saying about max bandwidth is true, although if you're not using SSDs you probably won't notice the difference.

Once again, thanks for your help, abjr!
