September 2, 201213 yr So I bought my first 3TB drive to start upgrading some of my 2TB drives. I understand that my Parity drive needs to be my first drive upgraded so I installed it and assigned it to the parity slot in the menu but unRAID is not recognizing it on the main screen. My assumption is because I am running version 4.6. The old adage of "if it aint broke don't fix it" is what I am going by and my system has worked perfectly. Does my version support 3TB drives? If not what do I have to upgrade to to make it work? My NAS is a 17TB system with thousands of files and I can't risk losing any of it. What should I do?
September 2, 201213 yr You must have a version 5 release to support 3TB drives. I just upgraded my 2TB parity drive to 3TB as well as one array disk. The latest release candidate for version 5 can be downloaded here: http://download.lime-technology.com/download/unRAID%20Server%205.0-rc6-r8168-test2%20AiO.zip
September 2, 201213 yr Instructions for upgrading from 4.x to v5 as well as the parity disk and array disk upgrade process can be found in several places in the forums and the Wiki pages. I don't have time to link to them right now, but, they should be easy to find.
September 2, 201213 yr Is it safe to upgrade to 5.0? only if you carefully follow instructions in the release notes and upgrade to 4.7 FIRST. then, save a copy of the "config" directory BEFORE upgrading to 5.0beta-rc6-test2
September 3, 201213 yr This also includes disabling any add-ons. If simple features is installed, rename the extras directory so it doesn't install. Rename or backup and remove any other add-ons. It's not that they won't work, its that you want to make sure the unraid upgrade goes smoothly, then addons last. Not sure if its in the instructions, but could save from potential headaches.
September 3, 201213 yr Just a heads up, not all v5 releases support 3TB drives. As it says at the top of the forums Support for 3TB Drives and larger is in v5.0-beta8 and later Just on the chance you weren't going to pick one of the recent ones.
September 3, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the reply's everyone. I will work through these steps and report back my results. Appreciate everyone's time!
September 4, 201213 yr Author So far I have upgraded to 4.7, upgraded to 5 (latest RC) and have completed the test that the NAS is working well. I will attempt the 3TB drive swap tonight One thing I am noting though is that the disk shares are now showing up...how do I hide disk shares in 5?
