OpenRemote for home automation

Featured Replies

Wondering if anyone has this running on their server. It's used to receive IP commands and transfer them to devices in the home. It can also send them to IR blasters to control IR only devices. It requires Java6 and I see they have Synology install instructions here: http://www.openremote.org/display/docs/OpenRemote+2.0+How+To+-+Controller+on+Synology+NAS

Would something like this be possible with unRaid? I'm trying to fit my new home build pieces together before I commit to anything. Thanks.

I wouldn't see why not. It looks like OpenRemote runs on Java which is platform independent.

Have you managed running openremote on unraid?

I want to do it also.

I tried to give open remote a shot when I was into home automation.

I thought it was super cool and promising. However, it was still in early development stages. Documentation was very poor, and the main developers simply did not respond to any of my questions on their forums. My questions were about basic stuff regarding the built-in parameters for checking on/off states (the value names).

I realized I had to know java and go through their code to figure it out, because all the developers were focused on dealing with KNX only and ignored all other questions. (KNX is widely popular in Europe and most of the openremote developers are Europe based)

But then again, this was about a year and a half ago, I haven't check it out since then. I hope at least the documentation is better by now
