Movie Subtitles

Featured Replies

Anyone know of a working linux / unraid solution that could automatically scan movie files in a certain directory and try and download matching subtitles ?

Subdownloader does provide linux distributions for its tool but I am unsure IF I can just try these, and even IF I could do that relatively safe.. ( I can imagine with a recent copy of the flash drive  there is not much that can go wrong right ?)

Sounds like a great thing to make into a plugin btw (hint hint ;-)

couchpotatpserver

It's written in python so as long as you have python installed it will run. Sab, Sickbeard and couchpotato all include python in the plugins.

You could download the source, untar, and run to test it out. Didn't see any documentation on cli options but it does have a cli mode. From the directory you untar it to you can run

python run.py --help

That will show you what it supports.

couchpotato only dld's subtitles if you let it change your movies titles :(

i like the scene names

so no subs for me :(

I'd also like to get a dedicated stand-alone program.

FileBot works up to an extent, but, quite a few subtitles get miss-matched.

Periscope doesn't work what-so-ever (It says it downloads them, but just makes empty .srt files)

Plex works great, however, only works for a very few number of shows (E.G. the most popular ones)

I can find them manually on opensubtitle (and download them), however, none of these programs seem to be able to download them.

I have totally moved away from this since I started using xbmc in the living room.. xbmc, with plugin, will download the needed subtitle adhoc the moment you need it..

couchpotato also does it but in reality that is rarely usefull since I mostly download new movies which will not have subtitles the moment of downloading..

In fact, I forgot to mention, I'm more aiming at TV Shows. Plex deals with pretty much every movie ever, subtitles are much more plentiful for movies.

Do you know if that XBMC plugin has a plex port? or anything plex related?

No, i would not know, but why would you need plex if you have xbmc ?

I don't use XBMC, I was asking if it was ported (Remade) for plex.

Retried "Periscope" today running as root, seemed to work a lot better.

Yesterday I was running as "Nobody", no idea why it needs root permissions, and, now I'm skeptical.

I use the XBMC plugin as I can test on the fly whether the subtitles are in sync with the video. I don't keep scene names for folders or files and usually can't remember which group released whatever movie/TV show. Though for TV shows it seems like they frequently have the English subs hard coded. At least that was the case for the bluray copies of the Danish/Swedish TV show "The Bridge" (can't wait for the next season!) and the Swedish version of the Killing.

I'm getting 2004 released HDTV rips, no encoded subtitles for me.

Although, like I said, periscope seems to work great, just, it has to be root, which, once again, is dodgy.
