My Setup and advice for Photos

Featured Replies

Hi,

I've been progressively building out my Unraid box (a Dell 755 with an attached MediaSonic 4-bay) my ultimate goal is to effectively setup my own 'cloud' for serving/streaming my media.

I've got SAB/Sick/Couch running with Plex and they're doing a great job handling the Video side of things.  I'm using Roku/ATV2/Samsung Blu Ray as clients for Plex and they seem to work well.

I've got SlimServer running for music to various devices, but in the process of obtaining a disc 'robot' to re-rip all my music to FLAC and may look at using Subsonic instead.

The above obviously address the Video/Audio portions of the Media trinity, but it does expose a gap I'm trying to figure out.  Specifically, how do I handle pictures?  I'd like to effectively get away from Picasa/Facebook etc and find a similar mechanism for storing and viewing photos.  I've done the simple portion of creating a share etc and transferring my photos to unraid, and for a typical Windows/Mac client I can obviously use an NFS/SMB share.  My major gap is how can I view them on other devices, e.g. iPad, Android, AppleTV, Roku?  I'd prefer to find a single 'server' platform, but I'm definitely open to different device clients.  I've dismissed Plex as it appears to be very slow for caching/loading photos, and I'm hesitant to go the XBMC route due to the substantial overlap with Plex (and the opportunity for confusion with the SO)

In terms of keeping everything together, my intent was to setup crashplan, just to clarify- can Crashplan for Unraid work as a server and a client?

Thanks in advance!

Any ideas?  About the best solution I've been able to come up with is to set up a web server and run something like Piwigo to create Photo Galleries.  Has anyone come up with any better solutions?

How about using the ATV to point to the files in iPhoto or Aperture?  I believe that works.

Thank you for the reply.  For my ATV something Luke that could work except I don't use iphoto or aperature. The bigger issue is remote access e.g. from iPad and Android. Ideally it would be a common app on all platforms which seems Luke that may just end up being a web browser...thoughts?

I would also like something for my photos. Ideally I would like to create a folder, stick all those folders in that folder then whatever software is running create pages for viewing those files automatically. Right now I use ZEN Photo on my hosted sites but for home would want to use something else.
