September 8, 201213 yr Hi all, I'm new to unRaid and have just built a system on v5. My motherboard limits me to a max hdd size of 2tb so I've got a 2tb parity hdd. How many other 2tb hdd's will my system support? Thanks in advance! Danny

Danny We don;t know, since the odds of you motherboard having more than 6 ports is slim... and the odds that an add-on SATA controller CAN handle disks > 2TB are very high, so your question is without merit. You are not limited to 2TB drives even if you can only use 2TB drives on the MB disk controller. All the others on other controllers can be 3TB, or 4TB. (The drives do not all have to be the same size, and the parity disk does not have to be on the MB disk controller.) The latest rc6-test2 upped the max disks to 24. Danny If you mean how many drives does unRAID support, check this link: http://lime-technology.com/wiki/index.php?title=FAQ#What_is_the_difference_between_the_unRAID_licenses.3F Total Drives Possible by license: Basic / free version - 3 (2 data & 1 parity) Plus - 7* Pro - 22* If you mean that you think your system has limitations, some more information on your system would help. You say your motherboard is limiting you, but don't tell anything else about the motherboard (brand, model, etc...).
September 8, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the replies. The computer won't boot with a 3tb drive, it just hangs very early on. I've tried every combination of formats for the drive ntfs, ex2, ex3 I know of. The motherboard is a 945g-m3 rev 3.0 So I guess the answer to my question is more than 3 drives and I can replace my 2tb parity with a bigger drive connected via an add-on card?

The disk formatting does not matter. UnRAID will reformat them. Does the system boot with no drives attached?
September 8, 201213 yr Author Sorry, I should clarify, The server boots with any combination of hdd's except when a 3tb hdd is attached. Even with only a 3tb hdd is attached it won't boot into bios. Other than that the server works fine.
September 10, 201213 yr Author Thanks dgaschk, is there a recommend/tested set of cards? I've got a spare sata card kicking around but it says it only works on Windows.
September 10, 201213 yr See here: http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12404.0 You may as well try the card you have.
