September 9, 201213 yr Can any experts let me know if this is a valid configuration. I have built one box prior using the below noted MB. I have no Linux skills and need a solution that "just works". September 9, 201213 yr I know there is a cost difference but why not a Core i3 over the AMD? That thing runs hot as hell and will suck down power. Especially with the ivy bridge i3s on the market now which will be faster and run way cooler and use a lot less power than the AMD.
September 9, 201213 yr Author Thanks for your suggestion mrow. Are there any processor restrictions with this motherboard? Which processor would you suggest?
September 9, 201213 yr You should be looking at a larger UPS placed on your Case, PS choice and the TWO SUPERMICRO AOC-SASLP-MV8 cards. While it might stay up when the power fails, it won't last very long even when the batteries are new. In a couple of years, I would be most surprised if it would run long enough to allow the server to shutdown gracefully.
September 9, 201213 yr Thanks for your suggestion mrow. Are there any processor restrictions with this motherboard? Which processor would you suggest? No restrictions other than the usual wattage limit but you are within that. What mrow was saying was the phenom needs a lot of power and runs hotter than its Intel counterpart. If you plan on transcoding and need the extra processing power, the Intel i3 series fit the bill nicely and run cooler, plus consume a lot less power when idle. Also, for your cables it will be worth checking out monoprice, their prices usually beat newegg or other competition on cables. That is unless you prefer to get it all from the same place.
