SOLVED: Please help, Tower not showing up in Network

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I tried searching and could not find a topic to solve my problem.  I have been using my UnRaid server for a few years with no problems.  I can access tower via internet browser, but Tower will not show up in my network and I cannot access my files.  Message " Error could not connect network drives"  I have not made any changes to my computer.  The only thing I have done was to move my router temporarily to another room and then change it back.  What can I do to reestablish my network connection to my server?  I have tried to map the drives but I get an error.

Thanks in advance,

Oscar

1. When you access via the browser do you use a hostname or IP?

2. When you ping your hostname is the IP the same as it has always been?

3. Can you hit \\tower\flash ?

4. Do you have a host file entry pointing to your machine?

2. When you ping your hostname is the IP the same as it has always been?Yes I ping tower in CMD prompt and the same ip 192.***.*.14 comes up

3. Can you hit \\tower \ flash ?No I tried \\Toweflash in browser and nothing happens.  I can go to file browser iin Tower:8080 and see all my directories

4. Do you have a host file entry pointing to your machine? Not sure what you mean by this.  what is a host file entry?

Thank you for your quick reply,

Oscar

Your IP address is an internal address so you don't need to mask it :)

Start > Run > \\Tower {press enter}

Start > Run > \\192.168.xxx.14 {press enter}

I see this posted all the time. Seems like the FAQ could use a little more detail on this topic.

Your IP address is an internal address so you don't need to mask it :)

Start > Run > \\Tower {press enter}

Start > Run > \\192.168.xxx.14 {press enter}

Tried this, Get error Windows cannot access \\tower or 192.168.***.**

I checked my MAC and I can access tower from the file manager.

Any other ideas,

thanks again for the quick responses,

Oscar

Start > Run > cmd

ping tower {Press Enter}

ping -a 192.168.xxx.14 {Press Enter}

ipconfig /all {Press Enter}

Please paste the results from those 3 commands...

I don't understand your ipconfig....its says media disconnected for all...

You should see at least 1 that looks like this:

Wireless LAN adapter Wireless Network Connection:
   Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
   Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . :
   IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.14
   Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
   Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1

Try ipconfig without the /all switch

Start > Run > ipconfig {press enter}

I went to MYIP ADDRESS and found that my IP address is 24.167.**.**.  does that sound about right?

I thought it should be similer to the 192.168.**.**

Yes that's your public ip address. How are you connecting to your NAS? Wired or Wireless?

  • Author

Both computer and NAS are wired

Control panel - Credentials Manager - delete/remove all "tower" ones.

Then Start - Run - \\tower

For the sake of cleanliness I'd go in and uninstall/delete/disable any of those tunnel adapters you can if they aren't used.

Have you set the correct workgroup and set local master to yes in SMB settings/.

I checked the Cred manager and there are no credentials set.  Can I add tower?  How do I go about doing it?

Yes I did set the workgroup to "workgroup and local master to yes.

I read some post about getting not getting an IP address an some people claim that the replaced the NIC and all was good after that.  Do you think the NIC has something to do with it?  I can brows the inter net and tower with no rroblem.  I just do not see tower on my computer.

thank you all in advance.  This is really starting to get to me,

Ok, I am running version: 4.6-rc3, do you think upgrading may help me with this?

Thanks,

Oscar

What "exactly" are they wired to.

If your PC has a non-local IP address, you might be trying to get your internet-service-provider to translate.  It should normally have a 192.168...... or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx address.

What "make/model" router and/or switch are you using on your LAN?    How are they connected?

You are apparently being assigned an IP address, so the network interface chipset/card is fine.

To see "\\tower" on your computer requires netBIOS to be functioning  What OTHER PCs do you have online on your LAN?

What I ment by wired is that they are connected via ethernet cables.  The Router is a netgear cable modem model cg814wg v2.

I have this  Win 7 machine that is my HTPC and 2 other macs. I can see and access tower and shares from my macs, but not from my win7 machine.    I can access tower via \\tower and \\tower:8080.  I was able to access NAS via My computer.  I had mapped my movies share and it would come up even though the tower was not showing in the network.  Now when I click on it it I get the following Pic attached.  What do I need to check to see if the netBIOS is working?  Is it in the network properties?

Thanks in advance,

Oscar
