September 11, 201213 yr Fresh reboot of unRAID 5.0-rc6-r8168-test2, added new 2TB drive (as disk 16). Clicked to start array (at 4:58pm), web page updated at first, clearing has been stuck at 1% complete per web page. In 3 hr it should have cleared passed 1%. No change in syslog. On another browser session unable to access the main page at all (just spins, never times out). Screenshot displaying all details attached. No add-ons. UPDATE: After leaving it overnight, processes completed and you could tell from the syslog it was ready to be formatted, MAIN page never displayed passed 1%. Was able to refresh page and format was available. Completed successfully. So it is clearly a bug.
September 13, 201213 yr I noticed the same when i added 3 not pre-cleared disks at the same time. The GUI freezes and you can only access the box via the console/telnet and there you see than some processes running which is suspect are the inits for the disk. The freezing GUI is what i find a problem, that the system is busy for many hours is logically, a preclear of a 2 TB runs a whole day also. In my case it was a mistake, so i stopped the server from the console, and manually pre-cleared the disks. (12 GB of ram used for 3 x 2 TB preclear with standard setting)
September 13, 201213 yr Author Yeap, agreed. I use Joe L.'s preclear myself. But doing QA on Tom last RC release (unRAID 5.0-rc6-r8168-test2) so testing varies out of the box and core functions. This one is a big fail, can't use the server without adding drives. Tom loves to hear from noob's who don't wish to be technical or learn anything and commend they want things simple. Which I completely understand and cool with, so the out of box has to work. So If i am a noob and download the install, follow the guide how to create a usb stick and then following the release notes to to set it up. I am in for a shock when I add my first 2/3/4 TB drive(s), and start a clear of the disk(s) and the web page doesn't refresh the progress status. Then come the posts to the forums "Whats going on, my server is hung when I started a clear?" and they start learning pretty quickly how to read forum posts and they're way around the forum, like how to use preclear (if they're array is to ever come up ("joke")), terminal, screen, etc... (Yes they become technical) Because no noob would let the server sit there and the web page would never come back with progress or completion after waiting hours, right? So this needs to be corrected. Personally I believe it is a bigger problem around emhttp affecting not only this posts problem (with the progress status), its emhttp lack of progress updating on various core functions (new permissions, etc...). So at this point (maybe don't know) , progress on the clear, etc.. could go to the syslog. And installation notes updated on how to terminal in and how to tail a syslog. Button up 5.0, and rework the web on 5.1 But to leave it as is and finalize 5.0, in my eyes is not the right thing to do.
September 13, 201213 yr I agree. However, I've found that if emhttp is running is will eventually become responsive again. This may take overnight or up to a day if clearing a 4T drive. Knowing this and having the ability to determine if emhttp is running is not common knowledge and should not have to be.
September 13, 201213 yr Author It does not back for "all", i will state. I just tested this with a 2TB drive left overnight and the web page NEVER updated and remained displaying 1%....... There are numerous accounts and complaints of this, not only for a clearing of a disk.
September 14, 201213 yr Agreed, the gui should be telling you all time what goes on for beginning users.
