September 20, 201213 yr Hi - hope someone has a quick solution to this as its driving me mad ! Scenario - i have a windows 7 machine and 2 servers A and B both unraid R5RC6. On the windows machine i go a share in explorer on B i.e photos and try to create a new folder - works fine. I set up a copy of photos from A to B as a backup using eg terra copy or this time it was freefilessync, after running for a few seconds there are lots of permission denied errors and the copy has to be stopped. Now when i go to the photos directory on B i cannot create a new folder as it now says "you need permission to perform this action" and i have to change all the permissions to be able to write to the share again?? If i do drag and drop or copy paste in windows it is no issue, its when i want to use a tool such as terracopy or similar that i seem to get the issue What is changing the permissions, why and most important how do i stop it ? September 21, 201213 yr Author Tried again and got the same result - i have no idea why the permissions change when i use these apps to sync data from 1 unraid to another - what is interesting is that i went and tried to delete a file and that worked so it seems is only the write/create that is getting changed - help please as i want to sync a lot of data and dont want to do it drag and drop in windows Would like to do this with rsync but just dont know how and all the options, using thigs like freefilssync allows me to set up syncs and save them so i can just load and run them when i want to sync up the folders.
September 21, 201213 yr Author I am using a share to a share i.e. /tower/photos to /backupsvr/backup photos so in the filesync app or in terracopy of browse to the directory as source and destination and hit go, it starts, will copy for a while and then suddenly i get permission denied? this is on a windows 7 machine with each of the shares being a share 2 unraid server servers on the same network EDIT: seems this changes all of my access even to disks as my crashplan backup was also stopped when the permissions changed. Going to run the new permissions script - again !
September 21, 201213 yr on the win7 machine. start>credentials manager. under Windows Credentials look for any related to unRAID or its shares. update the user from root to 'nobody' if applicable. Password is blank.
September 21, 201213 yr Author No, nothing in credentials relating to unraid. I use the same user neame and password for windows and my user account on unraid as i though it would avoid this problem Ran the new permissions script and no joy, seems only a rebbot will correct it. Also found its the same issue for a disk as it is for a share - need permission? Thanks for helping
September 21, 201213 yr Author Done a reboot and everything started ok but still no access. I found the following in my syslog and i think it occurs in the original one in the OP - does this mean its a file system problem and not a windows problem - and how does it get fixed? i tried in MC to change the ownership and got "cannot chown - read only file system" I think i have seen posts relating to reisrfs filesystem checking, will begin the hunt ... September 21, 201213 yr There is a corrupt file system on that drive. There should be an article in the wiki explaining how to fix it.
September 21, 201213 yr Author Thanks prostuff1 - did the reiserfschk process which is in the wiki and i got some output like "zero bit found in on disk bitmap after last valid bit" and "the on disk bitmap differs from original - will be fixed later" ran the process to fix what it can, restarted the array and all seems ok as just did a sync without the permissions dropping out - hope it stays that way Only issue now is crashplan wont start - think a reboot is called for ! EDIT: Changed to solved. I did the suggested repair of the drive as above and since then i have been able to copy across without issues coming back. seems somewhere along the line the reiserfs got corrupted on disk3 and unraid set it to be a read only file system when it was being mounted. The Crashplan topic being discussed elsewhere so dont want to add in any confusion as i think its helps others to have one topic per thread.
