[Solved] Disk not in array

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have a basic license on unraid. I have 3 TB hard disk. 1 used for parity and 2 for the files. However I thought about of adding another disk since I used my unraid for downloading stuff as well the two 2TB wont spin down so I decided to add a 750GB disk just to use it as cache drive. Now everything is working well the three 2TB is spinning down while not in use and only the 750GB is up all the time. Now my problem is manually transferring the files (console) from the 750GB to the User Share. Is it alright to move the files from the 750GB directly to /mnt/user/Media/ or it should need to move to /mnt/disk{1,2} and just run the parity check? If I moved it manually via console to the /mnt/user/Media does it move to the most-free as well since thats the configuration in webgui?

Thanks!

You can simply move to the user share. With a basic license you do nor have a "real" cache drive, so you need to manually (or with cron) move the files on a daily basis (or at another appropriate time interval). Also you will only aee the files in their share location after moving.

With a real cache drive this will all be transparant and you will not notice if tge file is on the cache drive, it will all look like it is allready in its end location.

Thanks. I will be buying the license one once I already have a new 2TB disks which as of now I don't think its still necessary to buy a new HDD since I still have 2TB of free space. For now 750GB will suffice my needs and I'll just make a cron for the schedule move.

You an move to /mnt/diskX/sharename/ or /mnt/user/sharename/ as you prefer. Copying to the user path will honor the share settings. The disk path does not involve the share settings.

A parity check is not necessary after writing to the array. Parity data is updated by the unRAID driver in real-time. A scheduled monthly check is a good idea however.

Hi,

I understand but the files i moved to /mnt/diskX/sharename doesnt seem to show when i browse the share in windows though I see all of them in console. However moving the files to /mnt/user/sharename do the trick. I can easily see all the files in the share when I browse it. By the way is there any fix on it when i moved it to /mnt/diskX/sharename?

Thanks

It may be a permissions problem. After moving the files run newperms, e.g. "newperms /mnt/user/share/target" (target can be a file or directory).
