Fractal Design R4 vs XL vs ?

Featured Replies

I need a case that is very appealing in the living room for right now as I do not have a whole house Gigabit LAN. This was one of the very few cases I have come by that doesn't look like a computer sitting beside my furniture.  My overall plan here is to start with 3 drives, move to 5-6 within a few months, and have the ability to expand up to 10-15. Are there other super living room acceptable cases I'm missing in the $100-140 range? What would be the downsides to either of these?

I have a Fractal Design XL for my normal PC.

disadvantages:

- if the 8 Pin CPU cable is not very long, the cable has to run through the coverable hole between the bottom PSU/drive bay section and the upper part of the case, this ruins the airflow over the bottum drives, and these get hot. (40 degrees celcius for green WD RE drives) -> need to get an extension...

- it is not as silent as i expected (3 x noctua 140 mm fan, and a existing Monster V8 cpu Cooler, which seems to be the noise maker.

- the 3 x 5,25" slots in the top of the case have some iron pieces between the 5,25" positions, so you cannot add a 5 in 3 bay for example without using a dremel or other tool to remove those iron pieces

advantages:

- very nice quality build

- dust filters

- drive bays work good, the power and sata connectors are easy accessable for all the drives.
