September 22, 200619 yr I'm following the upgrade questions but am stuck, hoping someone can help me. It says: Use telnet to open a command window on your currently running unRAID server and type the following command: dd if=/dev/sda2 of=/boot/super.dat bs=4096 count=1This will create a file named super.dat that contains your current array configuration. Next, close the telnet window and navigate to the flash share and copy the following three files to the config directory of your new Flash: super.dat ident.cfg network.cfg Note: the model.cfg file is no longer used, and you should use the disk.cfg file which comes with the new release. I've done the dd thing, clsed the telnet window. Now I'm to navigate to the "flash share. Does this mean on my XP machine with the new flash drive in it, I use explorer to go to \\tower\flash and copy the three files to the new flash (g: for me) in the XP machine? If so, then I'm missing something because my \\tower\flash is empty. thanks, dave
September 22, 200619 yr LovinHDTV, You got it right. The Flash Drive should be plugged into your Windows XP machine so you can use Windows Explorer to transfer the three files that are on the original unRaid Flash Drive to the new Flash Drive. Once you have done that, you can shut down the unRaid server, plug in the new Flash Drive and start back up. Regards, TCIII
September 22, 200619 yr Dave, I had the same issue, follow these steps. Open up your flash drive via your XP box (flash drive still in your array server) (ie My networks > flash) Then goto Tools > Folder Options > View > Select show Hidden files AND!!!! DE-SELECT Hide protected operating system files and folders!!! That will allow you to see all your files and folders on your flash

I had checked the hidden files already, but did not see the operating system box. Thanks!
September 22, 200619 yr Yeah, I was getting all pissed off last night and was like, WTF.... then I saw that silly box and I was like.... OHHHH
September 22, 200619 yr Author I just added this as a comment to Tom's instruction page, maybe it will help someone else.
September 22, 200619 yr Author got it all done, heres hoping I get my key from Tom before the weekend.
September 22, 200619 yr He sent me an email back within an hour or so last night. I know he logged onto the board today, so he should be around!!! Hope everything goes well for you!!!
September 22, 200619 yr Author Well that was a no go. I got the key, copied it over to the config directory. Shut down array, poweroff. Reboot and all I get is" GRUB loading..... ERROR15 and nothing else. I shutdown, reformated, copied, etc same error. I know this flash drive is good because I used to use it. I put the old drive back in and it booted right up. Ideas?
September 22, 200619 yr If you are trying to reuse the original Lime Technology flash, you need to reformat it using the HP Tool first.
September 23, 200619 yr Author I must be missing something. I downloaded the HP Tool per the link, installed it and ran it on my flash drive. I did a "normal", as in did not click quick format. This completed. I ran syslinux on the drive and say a linux.sys file appear (or something like that) I unzipped the beta2 UnRaid to the drive. I copied over my super.dat, network.cfg, ident.cfg and pro.key All this was on on my XP box Shutdown the UnRaid put in new flash turn on, POST completes, beep sounds but no GRUB infor printed and computer hangs. I'm back onto my older version and it runs fine. So what am I doing wrong? thanks,
September 23, 200619 yr One other thing: after POST, you'll see the screen blank and the cursor drop down a line... let it sit there for about 17 seconds & see if it boots.
September 23, 200619 yr Author Yes, after the beep and cursor drops, where the old version printed the GRUB messege, I waited 5 minutes and nothing happened. That is why I figured it had hung. Do I need to wait longer? thanks,
September 23, 200619 yr Ok, we need a do-over What Flash device are you trying to use, the original Lime Tech Flash, or another one (if another, what kind)? PS., sorry, you'd think I should know the answer to this since I can look at what keys are sent, but I have several simultaneous forum/email threads going on, and I don't always remember which forum names correspond to email addresses which correspond to real-life names... in orther words it easy to get confused
September 23, 200619 yr Author I'm using an orignal Lime Tech Flash. It had a really old version on it that I was not comfortable upgrading so you sent me a second drive already upgraded. I figured I would just use it for the Beta code. thanks,
September 23, 200619 yr Right. Ok, reboot with the newly formatted flash that has 3.0 on it and look at the bios setttings. Probably the 'new' flash is now being detected as a removable drive but the boot priority is still set to boot from a flash that looks like a hard drive. You'll have to change the boot priority.
September 24, 200619 yr Author OK, I got it to boot, but now I have no drives ! I hit the webpage and is shows no devices. Further, I telnet to the machine and /mnt/disk* are all empty mount points. Not sure why they did not get mounted. I do see the registration information though and do see messeges about finding devices hda, hdc and hdi. Not sure what is next
September 24, 200619 yr Two options: 1. Copy the disk.cfg file from your 'current working flash' to the config directory of the new flash, or, 2. Go to the Devices page and re-poplulate the device assignments for each array disk.
September 24, 200619 yr Author I looked at my disk.cfg and all it says is: spinDownDelay=1 How do I map my drives? I did nothing special the first time. Here is what I see under devices: hda hdc hdi how would they map? thanks,
September 24, 200619 yr Author I guess hda - parity hdc - disk2 hdi - disk4 This worked and I seem to have my data. Glad I did not get it wrong and loose all my stuff. Parity seems to be rebuilding at ~25,000KB/s
October 10, 200619 yr I seem to be having the same problem as a previous user in this thread.... my machine boots, but it just sits there at the blinking cursor... I've tried it on two different drives -- a sandisk cruzer micro U3 and a regular micro.... the regular micro is SLIGHTLY different as it comes up with a J then the flashing cursor right after it -- like this "J_" (no quotes) I've gone in the bios and checked and selected the micro as the bootable drive and i've waiting forever at the blinking cursor for it to do something... and nothing any help?
October 10, 200619 yr im using the Intel D865GLCLK and just 3 drives... 2 WD's (250gb) and 1 Maxtor (300gb).... I had it working previously.... had a poweroutage, killed my flash drive somehow (wouldnt boot, just kept rebooting....) tom told me to give this a shot.. and nothing so far...
October 10, 200619 yr drkwtsn, If you are going to invest the time and money in the unRaid O/S and server configuration, I recommend that you purchase a UPS with sufficient capacity for expansion (1kw) and line voltage regulation. I have both of my unRaid servers (12 drives each) on an APC 1kw UPS that includes line voltage regulation. We get at least 15-20 line transients a week here in the South Bay of Los Angeles and I have yet to loose a Flash Drive to a line induced transient. Did you have your unRaid server on a UPS or just a surge protected power strip? You might have more damage than just the Flash Drive, ie. motherboard/power supply. Just a thought. Regards, TCIII
