Disk failure, hell breaks loose.

I'll try to explain this issue as good as i can. I'm just tryig to get my unraid back online.

So all was well in unraid land wij my new config.

- x9scm

- 8gb ram

- 1220t i3

- sas2lp-mv8 containing data disks

Running 5.0rc8a

Then... I woke up yestersay with arrzy failt emails spamming my inbox.

An older 1tb drive had failed and was disabled.

Luckily it was still empty..

At this point the morning idiot in me forgets about syslog and its importance and reboot the server with no change.

So i started reading the forum/wiki and followed this procedure:

- stop array

- unassign disk

- reboot

- newconfig

- reassign all disks with helping screenshot, excluding the failed one.

- start array

At this point parity sync began and i went to bed for a good nights sleep,

Or so i thought.

Next morning... Parity invalid, disk 1 (containing all data) disabled.

So i AGAIN forget syslog and reboot.

To no avail, disk1 shows as unformatted.

So i make newconfig again with same config, excluding parity this time.

I start array( orange ball), all data seems fine.

I stop the array reassigning parity drive and start the array.

This is where i'm at now.

Is syncing parity again but i expect it to have failed again when i arrive from work this evening.

So what should i do to get my array back up with valid parity?

I'll post the syslog of the sync this evening.

Take smart reports of each drive as well

Will do...

The failed drive is disconnected now. Wil run some tests with it after my issues are resolved.

Its just an old 1tb disk, so i can miss it.

I already ran a short smart test on the parity drive which came out with no errors.

Will run extenive tests on the other drives this evening.

So this afternoon i got an email stating my unraid array is OK.

So when i got home all balls were green.(Better than blue balls anyway...)

So i attached my syslog...never mind the ioctl spamming by simplefeatures (aint harming anyone i guess? )

http://users.telenet.be/bart.e/syslog

http://users.telenet.be/bart.e/syslog2

Also i added a second one filtered on warnings and errors.

Unmenu now shows following status:

STARTED, 3 disks in array.    Parity is Valid:.  Last parity check  15616  days ago with no sync errors.

Should i start a parity check? I'm scared to :P

A check is required to verify what was written.

Parity check ran over night.

Came out with no errors and 100MB/s average.

Guess i'm fine then.
