I'm looking to switch from a single 4TB parity to an Areca ARC-1210 with two 4TB Hitachi drives.  I know that the parity has to be the largest drive, so I was considering creating a 6TB RAID0 for Parity. That will leave me some growth for when larger drives come out next year or so.

 

I only need a couple hundred GBs for cache (in RAID1), so should I do anything else with the leftover space?  Swap? unshared storage?  Or should I just create a 1TB RAID1 cache?

 

Eventually, I plan on moving my setup to ESXi.
