What is the cheapest Intel processor that I can use to do on the fly transcoding?

    it depends on what quality you are coming from and what quality you want the file to be.

     

    If you want HD video I would not go with any thing less than a intel i7.  I have a second gen i7 that will encode a blu-ray to 720p at just over real-time.  If you don't need the quality an i5 should do the trick.
