October 4, 201213 yr Hello - This is probably a really dumb question but I searched the forums and couldn't find anything (my apologies if it was right in front of my face). When I go to the Users tab through the server and choose to add new users, I never get new "Profiles"; it just sticks with the root account 100% of the time. I noticed for some of the other tabs (Shares, etc) it gives me a .cfg file under config. With I don't see anything labeled "users" anywhere, but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to or not. I've added users; I just want to see who I have added. My understanding is that they should all be lower-case named, which I think I've done. I'm not 100% positive, but when I try to do it now I'm just stuck there. Please see screenshot if necessary, I'm more than happy to try just about anything (except a reboot - I'm rebuilding as one of my drives failed)! Thanks, as always.
October 4, 201213 yr Add the user without a first capital, that will work... Using a first capital for some reason does not work.
October 4, 201213 yr Author Thanks - I thought I had done it for two user accounts that I hadn't and those worked. I tried to make one for my xbmc (xbmc:xbmc) but that didn't work. Is there an issue if I use the login name the same as the password? Edit: I tried making it a different password but it still didn't work. I checked the logs and it stated this: Oct 4 15:00:17 Server useradd[30175]: failed adding user 'xbmc', data deleted Oct 4 15:00:17 Server logger: useradd: user 'xbmc' already exists Any clue why these guys wouldn't show up on my Users screen? Weird!
October 4, 201213 yr all user names must be lower case only. They are silently ignored otherwise. (a bug in my opinion, as an error message should be given when the character set is not correct)
October 4, 201213 yr Author Thanks! Why is it saying I already have an account then when it doesn't show up in the User section? Thanks once more for the feedback and help. Edit: The user names and passwords show up in the smbpasswd file in my config folder.
