October 6, 201213 yr Hello My 4.7 Unraid with 2Tb parity and 4.5 (3x1.5Tb) data is almost full.... I was looking for some 2Tb hard drives (5,900rpm) but looks like there few and price still high...What's going on? Does that mean my selection is limited to 1.5Tb disks? What are my best options?
October 6, 201213 yr I'm not sure where you are. the prices are going down ridiculously slow. with all of the competition gone, there is no need to "undercut the other guy" anymore. Sad to say, I think the days of the $60 2TB drives are gone. for now the prices are about $99 for 2TB and $150ish for 3TB (in the US). it might still go down slowly, perhaps a more rapidly once there is some sort of new drive on the market. there are a few sales now and then that take the dives a bit lower.. I am sure that with the holidays approaching, there will be some good sales. after that, we might see the prices fall a bit faster.
October 6, 201213 yr Author I am in the US (Michigan) I was thinking about another option: I buy a 3Tb drive and make it my parity drive. Then I can reuse my current 2Tb parity drive for data Is it possible with version 4.7? Who could give me a step by step guide to do that....Like I said, my server is almost full (~4 Tb) and I don't want to loose everything
October 6, 201213 yr Support for 3TB Drives and larger is in v5.0-beta8 and later You can upgrade FIRST to 5.0-rc8a, then, once upgraded you can perform the install of the new 3TB parity drive, and then, once you feel it is performing properly, reuse your existing 2TB drive for data.
October 6, 201213 yr Author Is the upgrade to 5.0-rc8a pretty straightforward............and safe? It's not a beta version apparently Where can i find a detailed guide to install a new parity drive?
