October 7, 201213 yr I'm using version 4.7, and my battery backup is going, so I believe it caused my server to shutdown (or at least I've had no other shutdowns since I took the server off the batty backup and the battery backup keeps checking its battery constantly). Anyway, upon start up, the server ran an automatic parity check and found 36 errors. However, where the main screen lists "errors" on a per-drive basis, there are no errors there. What is the difference between the parity check errors and the errors per drive?
October 7, 201213 yr Per drive errors are read errors. Parity errors are incorrect parity bits. An unclean shutdown can cause parity errors.
November 21, 201213 yr I suppose forcing a Spin Down can also cause Parity errors? Right? No. But an improper system shutdown (like just pressing the power switch or hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL without the appropriate power down scripts being installed) will do this. Regards, Stephen
