October 10, 201213 yr Kind of disgusting. NCIX raised their price by $3 from yesteday or a day or two before, rather than newegg matching the $116 price. I got one when NCIX had a promo code to get $10 off the $116 prices about a week ago. I didn't get multiple because it was only discounted on a single drive and I didn't really have the cash for two at that time anyway. I checked in to see if the promo was still going on yesteday or last weekend and saw the same price but promo code was expired. Now would have to pay $3 more than last weekend. Was going to get one this weekend and still am. :'( Update it was SuperBiiz that had the promo not NCIX although their prices are close $119 NCIX, $116 SuperBiiz.
October 10, 201213 yr Pro tip: In Canada, always use NCIX's sister store DirectCanada - same price (or less) and free ground shipping on anything over $50. http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=25350DR4871&vpn=WD20EFRX&manufacture=WESTERN%20DIGITAL%20WD
October 13, 201213 yr Are these Western Digital RED drives significantly better than the GREEN drives Newegg lists for $109.99? Or the Western Digital WD AV-GP WD20EURS 2TB SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive they also offer for $119.99? How do they compare to the now unavailable Hitachi 2TB drives?? The reason I ask is, I don't have a NeweggBusiness account and the best price I can get for the RED drive from Newegg.com is $159.99. I may need to replace a Hitachi GST Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 (0F12117) 2TB 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive, which seems to be having all sorts of problems after a power failure.
October 13, 201213 yr I will be going SuperBiiz for the Reds as long as they are cheaper. The Red drives are designed for NAS storage. The Greens are designed for power savings. The AV drives are designed to go in DVR boxes. All work as general drives. The biggest advantage of the Red's is probably the warantee. Although with a recent change WD only warantees the replacement for less than a year so the extended warantee on the Red may not get you anything if you have to replace the replacement.
