Formatting drives again?

Featured Replies

I've set a couple of drives and formatted them in unRaid but want to format them again.

The format button has gone so what is the quickest way of formatting them again?

If they are not assigned to the array, type:

mkreiserfs /dev/sdX1

(make sure you put the trailing 1 on the disk device name)

If they are assigned to the array, type:

mkreiserfs /dev/mdX

where X = the disk number.

Neither will change the start of the partition, but both will format the drive assuming it is already partitioned.

Will doing this [mkreiserfs /dev/mdX] to a drive that's assigned to an array retain valid parity?  (same as formatting a newly assigned drive does)

You likely have some bigger issue if that is happening. The drive should not appear unformatted again if you assigned it into the array and it was formatted and appeared as a formatted drive.
