Directory bread(block xxxxx) failed:: Error

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I know, I know..... yet another Bread Block error thread. The reason I am opening this new thread is that I could not get any concrete solution on this problem. If it had been an occasional occurrence, then I might have just continued with the "current" solution, which is to switch off the server unplug and then replug the USB drive and all is well. But this is getting way to frequent now, once every 7-10 days. I searched the forums and I found quite a number of thread with different solutions, but none works to eradicate this issue permanently. This is what I have tried as per different threads

Scan the USB drive from a windows PC via scan disk ::: No error.

Changed the USB port ::: Still does not help. I got he error after 7-8 days.

RAN memtest RAM is good, changed the RAM slots ::: No difference.

The only thing left to try is to change the USB drive all together. Please suggest a concrete solution, as I can not afford to keep re plugging the USB drive after every 7-10 days, specially when I have to configure quite a few plugins all over again. Plus if I am out of my house accessing my NAS via 3G and this happens I am left helpless, with limited access to my data.

Second if I do try to change the USB drive with a new one, would just copying the entire contents from the old usb to new one do the trick or do I have to do anything else as well.

Plz plz ... suggest a solution to this problem.

regards

SAMMY

You'll have to run makebootable.bat after copying the contents of the old flash.

mmm so thats it is that the only solution left ....... infact I was hoping if somebody would atleast tell me what exactly is wrong ..... This directory bread failed is almost permanent now ..... ????

If you have something that is writing to your USB stop that and your problems will go away.

That was my experience anyway.

Any Idea how can I figure out what is that which is writing on my pendrive. Also for the record I tried copying all the contents of my main drive to a new pendrive, ran the "make bootable.bat", file and booted, but it does nothting ..... I mean I dont see the main page, I can not telnet anything. Something isnt right. I presume it is the key that is associated with my original pen drive .....

I inserted my original pendrive, it works but after couple of minutes or an hour may be I start getting the same error and then, quite a few services of UNRAID stop.

I am not able to use paid UNRAID now just because of this error, which is sad. I am disheartened to have no support on this, despite of purchasing the OS.

Regards

Sammy
