[CLOSED] How do I check a clearing disk's status

Featured Replies

I added a new 1TB drive today. I just want to know how to check the status of the new disk that is being cleared? The webUI is non-responsive as expected. How do I check it in a telnet or putty session?

I checked the log and is just says:

Oct 12 11:02:12 Tower emhttp: clearing disk3...

It has been 1.5 hours so far.

It should be done soon. This is the reason pre-clear was developed.

It finally is done. I just took the time to run some errands. Web UI is back online and disk shows as unformatted. I'm back in business. I guess from now on I'll stick with using pre-clear ahead of time.

Disks can usually be written to at between 50 and 100 MB/s.

At 100MB/s that is 6seconds per GB.

Your 1TB drive is 1000GB, therefore the best case guess is 6000 seconds ( or 1.66 hours)  More likely it will be closer to twice that... longer if the array was doing anything else or older hardware was involved.  (3 or 4 hours)

Good to know. My question still stands though. Is there any way to check on this progress?

On older releases there was.  (It would write a line to the syslog every percent or so)

On current releases, I don't think there is.
