4tb drive

Featured Replies

I have four of those drives, three of which are in my unRAID.  They are pretty fast and I haven't experienced any issues so far.

I'm using 7 of these Hitach 4TB disks (HDS724040ALE640). No problems, but they can get a bit warmer then other drives. They will run at 40+ Celsius in notime. So pay some attention to cooling if you think that is a problem.

Thanks for the info guys, one other question, how long did it take to do a preclear on this drive?

More like 42 hours in my case.

Actually, looks like 39 hours.

+1 for this drive. I have a similar Hitachi 4tb drive (model 0S03363) as parity, and no problems.

That price isn't the greatest however. I'm not sure why we're seeing a downwards price trend on sub-4TB drives, but these guys are not budging (or going up!).

When they first came out, I saw them a few times for $199 and $220, and now they never seem to drop below $250-$300

That's good to hear! Perhaps a sign of the times....

Every time I've searched online in the last month, I have not seen anything under $250...

Amazon has this drive for $270.00, I might wait a little longer an see if prices get any lower.

Amen! I'm barely getting into 3TB drives, the price per gig for the 4TB drives is too high right now...
