unRAID connection being really inconsistent and bizarre

Featured Replies

Hey folks. New unRAID user here. Set this up a couple of weeks ago.

My problem is that the server is behaving really ... flaky for want of a better word. For some parts of the day it can stream 1080 content fine. I get read speeds ~80 mbps. But every now and then it become bad. Like right now, for the same file being transferred from the network to an internal harddrive on my computer, I'm getting read speeds of ~25mbps. I'm not able to figure out what's the problem. It fixes itself on its own in half n hour or so, but in the meantime I cannot watch anything. VLC has to buffer constantly every 5-6 seconds and it gets annoying. The part that is really surprising is that it is inconsistent. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it slowing down (or I can't seem to recognize one). It's just happens on its own.

Would you guys have any idea what's happening? Or even help in pointing me in the right direction. It's bizarre.

My setup:

Seagate 2GB disk1

Samsung F4 2GB disk2

WD Caviar Green 3GB parity

syslog attached. Please let me know if you need anything else from my side.

I would be greatly in debt of anyone who could help diagnose my problem.

The syslog is only nine minutes long. Collect a syslog after a slow transfer occurs. Disable all add-ons.

Attached latest syslog.

It was being slow about 5 minutes ago and it's fixed now.

OK, disabled unmenu and simplefeatures. I think those were the only addons I had installed.

And right now, I am getting crap read speeds. I was playing a 1080 movie and it keeps getting stuck/lagging.

Thanks for helping btw.

-EDIT- Actually I just checked and my read speed is still ~80mbps when I'm copying files. However, my video stream is lagging which would mean that it's staggering.

-EDIT2-

Added note for people who might reach here in the future:-

This seems to be related to my Windows ethernet drivers. I am not facing this issue while using linux on the same client computer. I'll add details later.
