3Ware 8506 series raid cards

Featured Replies

I have my supermicro motherboard, that has 5 pic-x slots, and was looking at getting one or more of these series raid cards... does anyone know if they work well?  or support the S.M.A.R.T. passthrough?  I have 2 of the 3Ware 9550SXU cards, and they dont...

Anyways, just looking for some info before i go ahead and buy a couple...

Thanks in advance.

I have a Supermicro with PCI-X slots with Supermicro adaptors and everything works fine.

As dgaschk said I would recommend these cards they worked in my X7SBE when that was my unRAID server.

The 9550 cards "should" support SMART pass through, you have to run smartctl -d 3ware or use the twcli utility.

I forget it's been so long. I don't think it supports the smart temperature on the unRAID interface, but I know you can get smart out of a 3ware controller.  We've done it with much older controllers.

on my X7SBE I use the supermicro AOC-SAT2-MV8 with great results. Highly recommended.

I think simpler is better for the data drives.

I might use the 3ware card for RAID0 parity or RAID1 cache if I had the extra slots and required the extra performance.

In the end I went with the ARC-1200 for PARITY/CACHE.
