SABNZB: What is wrong with it.

Featured Replies

I currently have SABNZB 0.7.3 installed in unraid 5.0-RC8a. I installed it with Influencers plugin (great job, thanks).

I experience a problem with it. At first it works just fine, downloading at full speed (close to 60 Mbit/s, 7.1 MByte/s). But then after a while it slows down completely, downloading drops to 0.5-2 MByte/s and verifying/unpacking slows down too. This is the third time in a row it happens.

Restarting SAB doesn't help, I have to reboot the server and instantly I am back to full speed. Is there a memory leak in SAB? or are there any settings that can cause this behaviour?

My Sabnzbd version says 0.7.4. Are you sure you installed Influencer's up-to-date .plg ?

Do you mean Sab is slowing down when it dowloads *and* unpack at the same time, or does it slow down even only downloading ? (not clear)

Are you writing directly on the array or do you use a cache disk ?

BTW you have a nice internet connection :)

I saw an on-screen message about 0.7.4 being available, so I updated. See how it goes.

The problem I described is that downloading slows down even when it's only downloading. Unpacking gets slower too, even when downloading is finished.

What are your machine specs?

It's SABnzbd BTW.

Are you downloading to a Cache disk? If not, then you can expect a slowdown as the system writes to the parity drive.

To cut a long story short:

It runs on a X9SCM-F with Xeon E3-1240 and 16 GB RAM. I will also be running ESXi on it, Which is now not running, it;s just unraid for now.

The funny thing is that SAB is running for some time, can be a couple of days or a few weeks, then downloads starts to slowdown and eventually all SAB is doing is slowing down.

Yes, a cache disk is being used.

Start up htop while it's being slow and look at the RAM and CPU usage. I doubt that's the problem though.

How many connections do you have open, who is your NSP (news server) and who is your ISP?

You may need between 5 and 30 connections open to max your line, depending on the NSP, ISP and time of day/throttling/traffic management.

I have 12 connections open at Giganews. I have Dutch provider: Ziggo. Right now I'm downloading at max. speed. Never experienced any throttling from my ISP.

Whyis everything at full speed after rebooting the server?

No idea. Up your connections to the max (minus 1 or 2) your NSP allows.

And, if it happens again, run SABnzbd on your PC and see if it's slow there. That'll eliminate any issue with your ISP or NSP.

Could your router be to blame? I have experienced issues with Torrents where internal tables in the router filled and caused issues, possible the multiple high speed connections are having a similiar effect and that rebooting the server is resetting things? Next time try resetting network hardware before resetting the server to see if that also fixes things....
