October 29, 201213 yr Does anyone have any experience with Full Disk Encryption and unRAID? I can find a few threads thats 3-4 years old, but nothing that's remotely recent. Currently, unRAID supports all of what I demand from a storage server, except for Full Disk Encryption. Is it possible with the normal unRAID build, or can it be done with a full slackware + unRAID install? I'm looking for something that will start the system, but won't start the array or read ANY data from the disks unless a password is given from either the shell or web interface.

Closest without a full install and MAJOR re-work of file system is encfs. A user-layer on top of a regular file-system. You can install it through unMENU, or on your own. It waits for you to invoke it with a password when you reboot the server. It provides access to a "decrypted" set of files and directories and automatically manages the "encrypted" set that lives on a regular unRAID reiserfs. It is slower than native access to un-encrypted directories and files, but might suffice for your needs. (unRAID only supports reiserfs) Joe L.
October 29, 201213 yr Yeah, I too await something seamless that might protect all of my data. I'd really like something integrated and seamless. Forcing a password at. It from console or SSH would be awesome. My biggest concern is what a stray bit flip might do to my data...
