unMenu with 5.0rc8a?

Featured Replies

Hey all!

I'm pretty new to UnRAID, I just bought a pro key and am installing it for the first time today. I've been looking at it for a while and it really seems like it has better features and better failure characteristics than a lot of the other NAS OS options out there (I'm coming from WHS and WHS 2011).

What I can't figure out is: should I bother installing unMenu with the latest versions of unRAID? I'm having a little bit of a hard time sorting through which parts of which documentation are still applicable and which are outdated. I am also a web developer by day, so I am fairly comfortable with the linux command line (although mostly in the debian/ubuntu flavors), and am eventually planning to install Plex Media Server and some of the Influencer apps, I don't know if that factors into things at all or not.

EDIT: I should clarify, this is more of a "Should I" question than a "Can I" question, from searching around through other posts it looks like unMenu is at least supported in 5.x, the question is more what benefits it offers.

Thanks a lot.

I was in your shoes a few months back... I came to the realization that with the new plugin architecture that (for me) all I needed were plugins and I totally bypassed using the unMenu altogether.

I found that with the influencer plugins and all the "simplefeatures" plugins; you can do just about everything that would be in unMenu and more.
