Anyone know if Gigabyte motherboard GA-MA74GM-S2 supports 3TB

Featured Replies

I built my unraid a while using unraid 4.5.  I recently lost a drive and need to replace it.  I have been using all 1 TB up to this point; however, 3 TB drive have fallen in price a lot since I built this server.  I have my eye on a 3 TB WD Red but I don't know if my MB will support.  I know others on this forum use the GA-MA74GM-S2 so I am hoping someone will have an answer.

In terms of Unraid, all I need to do is update from 4.5 to the newest 5.0 release candidate to support > 2 TB right?

This is Gigabyte board and has has many different hardware spin-outs. The first ones do not have the BIOS to disable the HPA "feature" (aka dual BIOS)

You should check by yourself your board but having one that is susceptible to HPA is a big no no for Unraid. (as this feature will normally strike when you add another disk or controller).

And yes you will have to upgrade to the latest 5.0 to get 2.2TB+ support.

I checked the board.  I have Rev 1.0, so this agrees with me that I built this a while ago :)

I read the following post:

Sound like there is a work around for this HPA issue.  I haven't had a problem yet and one of my drives does show up a tiny bit smaller so it looks like the board has already selected it drive to place the HPA.

So does anyone know if the GA-MA74GM-S2 can support 3 TB with unraid 5.0?

The only other motherboard that Newegg still sells that supports my CPU and Ram is the ASRock A785GM-LE
