No. You must start the tail process before the server crashes, then when it does crash, you will see the last entries to the syslog before the crash happens.

Syslogs are stored in RAM, so when you restart, the previous events are gone, and it starts logging fresh.

array disconnected again...any ideas? did that telnet session show anything? thanks!

Are you manually restarting the system or is it rebooting by itself?

  • Author

i manually reboot it after it disconnects from my network. and when it boots back up the array is typically stopped and when i start the array it usually goes into a parity check. past few parity checks have come back with 0 errors

Is the system completly dead?  If you attach a screen and keyboard are you able to do anything before you restart it?

Problem happened again. my unraid server is no longer connected to my network. i have confirmed that nothing appears on the monitor that is attached to it. Infact i do not even have power to my keyboard i unplugged and plugged keyboard back in but nothing happens.

i havent done it yet but i bet if i restart the server i bet that the array will be stopped and once i start it it will go in to a parity check...any ideas? think its just a network issue im dealing with? but then why would the array be taken offline as well...hmmm i dont know ha..thanks for taking the time to read this!

No I have not. i guess i can try that i currently have a CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W. I think I want to stick with CORSAIR unless someone has any suggestions? i just need a lot of sata cables... i feel like sata cables straight from the psu is better than a cable adapter..or does it not matter really?

do you think its psu even though my server stays powered on?
