November 12, 201213 yr Hello, We had a power outage last night. My server was off. It is feed off an UPS and a surge protector. I turned on the server tonight and the BIOS has lost all it's settings. Not sure why this happened?? It has been years since I even looked at the bios and I don't remember what settings I had enabled. (I seem to have info on everything about my system save the bios ) I am certain the hard drives need certain settings. I have 16 drives in total - 15 data, 1xparity. These are controlled off the MB and 2xPromise TX4 expansion cards (see sig) It would seem the bios defaults to certain settings. In the bios there is a "IDE Configuration" part. I think I should have it set as "SATA Configuration - Enhanced" then"Configure SATA as AHCI" (could be RAID or IDE) Then there is the "AHCI Configuration" On first boot into the setup part of the bios, it is showing Port0,1,2,3,4,5. Port 0 is showing as "NOT detected" This doesn't seem correct?? Also, I'm not sure what setting I should have to recognise the USB stick. There is " Auto, Floppy, Forced FDD, Hard Disk, CDROM" Also, should "Hard Disk Write Protect be disabled, or enabled? I also have a JMicron Controller part. Currently it defaults to "JMicron SATA/PATA Controller - Enabled" Under that is "JMicron SATA Controller Mode - AHCI" (it could be RAID, or IDE) I was certain that when the server booted, it showed two drives on the JMicon part of of the screen, but now it's only showing one?? This is the first issue I've had with my server in years, so I'm somewhat nervous. I have attached the last log if it helps. I was certain I had all the settings written down, but I haven't been able to find them Appreciate the assistance. syslog-20121111-223949.zip
November 12, 201213 yr Author First thing I'd do is replace the BIOS battery backup - they must be dead. I wondered if that may be the case. I'll have a look. Thx
November 12, 201213 yr Author After reading some backup notes, I managed to restore the BIOS to previous settings. The server now starts. I do have a small problem. When the array starts, all the drives are spun down, even though the setting is to spin down after 4 hours?? When I access the data via Windows explorer and use vlc to play media on the drives, it all plays, but it doesn't seem like the drives spin up. What I'm saying is that it would appear the drives are actually spinning, but the WebGUI shows the aren't. Suggestions please.Thx.
