Hard drive ticking sound - failing drive?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I recently swapped in two 3TB (ST3000DM001) and a 2TB drive (ST2000DL003) in my 4 drive setup. One of the drive occasionally makes a ticking noise as if the drive is spinning up and repositioning the heads. I couldn't tell which drive is making the noise as it's happening probably once every hour or so when its idle (i think). I ran parity-check, and found no errors. I tried adjusting the spinning down time out, no affect.

Should I worry? Is this potential drive failure?

Attached is SMART report of the drives.

Thanks,

Jason

One of my Seagate 3tb drives also does this. I ran it through 2 preclears and it had no issues at all. So maybe it is something with Seagate 3tb drives?
