August 13, 200817 yr Hello, I'm using my Xbox (XBMC) to view movies from windows 2K pro and SangoToolbox srv, and all works good. Now, I will replace my Windows to a new PC with unRaid My unRaid PC: MB : GIGABYTE GA-G33-DS3 CPU : Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 RAM : 2x512Mb Kingston PC-8400 HHD : 3xSATA Samsung F1 1Tb The XBMC take 2 minutes to connect to the share, but after all is fine to stream .avi and .iso (4.5Gb) Why is so long to browse 1000 folders? in every folder 1 or 2 .avi and some .srt Someone can Help me please? Tanks and sorry for my bad english.
August 13, 200817 yr Please see the Improving unRAID Performance wiki page for some tips, that may help. Otherwise, we need to see your syslog, see the Troubleshooting page for help.
August 14, 200817 yr Author Hello Everybody, I'change the IP adress path in my XBMC to the DNS path (name of my NAS), and now is not 2 or 3 minutes but 30 sec. I don't understand why, but is a bit better I have installed Twonkymedia on my Nas, but this UPnP server don't read .iso and some others codec, then I prefer waiting 30 sec. best regards
August 14, 200817 yr Please post the full ip details including dns settings and subnets for you xbmc and your server. I think this is an IP setup issue but we will know for sure once we have these details.
August 14, 200817 yr Author xbox : 192.168.1.6 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254 unRaid: 192.168.1.11 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.254 PATH FOR SHARE in my XBMC before: smb://192.168.1.11/movies/ now: smb://UNRAID/movies/ When I put the new entrie for the share in my XBMC is 1 sec. (add new source / windows smb / browse / WORKGROUP / UNRAID / Movies) but after, when I use the bookmark (make with the new entrie) is 35 sec.
August 14, 200817 yr I assume 192.168.1.254 is your DNS server? What are the windows workgroup names in unraid and xbmc
August 14, 200817 yr you missed a question ^^ look up Also you changed the default name of unraid from tower to unraid yes?
August 14, 200817 yr Author Sorry, but english is not my language Yes I change the name! It's better to keep "tower" ?? and I put "Workgroup" in the unRaid and the XBMC and my PC
August 14, 200817 yr So far everything looks OK. Is this correct: smb://192.168.1.11/movies/ = FAST smb://UNRAID/movies/ = SLOW Dont worry about your English, it is fine. IF you don't understand what someone says then just ask for clarification
August 14, 200817 yr Author Ok tanks Nas, no it's the opposite smb://192.168.1.11/movies/ = SLOW smb://UNRAID/movies/ = FAST (35 sec. for 1030 folders) but, I add some code in the go file (see in the "30% Read Performance Improvement Tweak") I add : sleep 30 for i in /dev/md* do blockdev --setra 2048 $i done maybe I want to take off? tank you NAS
August 14, 200817 yr Does SLOW = initial connection to share is slow OR does it mean data transfer is slow for videos etc. XBMC on an XBOX 1 will always be slow for 1000 folders as it has so low memory it will cache to HDD alot. There is no way XBMC on an XBOX 1 can load 1000 folders into its GUI in 1 second. Its just not possible so perhaps you are seeing cached data?
August 14, 200817 yr Author Oups I don't understand all your message. Yes I now It's impossible to browse in 1 Sec. But 30 sec It's not a bit too much? I'm not so sad... It's always better than 3 minutes with the IP adress I don't undersdand why is so different between IP adresse and DNS (for me IP adresse will be better ) When I browse from the Windows 2K pro and the SangoToolbox It browse the same catalog in 5 sec. but, the sango probably send a list to the box. Juste one precision. Now I can read a .ISO (4.5 Gb) without problems and I'm happy. Yes maybe I will try to put the "list" in cache I see something like that in the forum! tank's Nas !
August 14, 200817 yr Do a ping of each IP, your router, your unraid, your other box, your xbox and see if the times are around 1ms for all.
August 14, 200817 yr Maybe try a a clean install of the latest t3ch build of XBMC? I had some weird issues with XBMC after too many upgrades and a clean install fixed it. I did have to do all the settings again, but it didnt take that long.
