Because amazon ran out.  The new ones at $110 are being sold by J Electronics.

 

I bought 2 at the $90 mark, I guess I will sit on them until either I get a new case or for backups if one of my other drives die.

It's not a green drive!  Now I'm going to have to swap this out with my current parity drive which is green to take advantage of the better speed of this drive!

Man this is going to take a while!!

Read/writes and parity syncs run as fast as you're slowest (green) drive. All you introduce with these is heat and noise.

As a parity drive it could provide a couple of percent greater speed when writing to multiple data drives at the same time.  Otherwise I would use this as a data drive for data that I wanted faster reads from.

There is a "use". I like to keep a warm spare that's been pre-cleared a couple of times without adding to the array.

I'm not a big fan of Seagate, but it's to good to pass. This saves me a hassle with Costco\Best Buy external drive deals (void of warranty). I wonder if WD30EZRX will be on big sale this week too...

Seems to be flipping between in and out of stock. At the moment out of stock.

I missed it, and I really need one, server is full. Amazon back to 129.00 now. Hoping for a black friday deal.

Amazon has for 109 now w free shipping. Better deal than external for 99 since this keeps warranty.

Think I'm going to take my chances and wait. Still have the actual black friday and then the weekend, and monday too to find deals. Warranty seems to vary depend on who is selling it.

 

By the way check your credit cards, many american express cards will extend the manufacturer's warranty by a year. Other credit cards may do the same too.
