cylon
I have two Supermicro SASLP-MV8 cards with 14 drives connected. I have never tested the on-board SATA ports until now - stupid, I know. My motherboard is a X8SIL-F in a Norco 4224 chassis. I have purchased two different brands of breakout cables but that hasn't helped. I can see the drives (tried both 2TB and 3TB drives) have power as the power LEDs light up on the chassis. The BIOS then steps through the detection of the drives but the drives connected to the motherboard SATA don't show up in the BIOS and never flash their activity LED as the other ones that are connected to the SASLP-MV8 cards do. Is there something I need to set in the BIOS to activate the on board SATA ports? I have seen others have this exact same setup so I am a little confused. Quote Link to comment
Johnm
You need REVERSE breakout cables. normal breakout cables are for going from a sas controller to sata hard drives. They look the same, but they are wired differently so they are not interchangeable . Example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816133033 Quote Link to comment
