November 24, 201213 yr I currently use all 5400RPM green drives, including my parity drive. There was a great sale on 7200RPM 3tb drives, so I picked one up. Should I swap my current 5400RPM parity drive for this new 7200RPM drive? Will it speed up parity checks and/or data rebuilds? My parity checks are around 50MB/s, and my data rebuilds are 80MB/s currently.
November 26, 201213 yr Array operations are limited by the slowest drive involved. Replacing only the parity drive will make writing concurrently to multiple drives slightly faster. Replacing disk1 will make reading from disk1 faster. Replacing parity and disk1 will make reading and writing to disk1 faster.
