November 28, 201213 yr I recently purchased a HP N40L microserver, with Esxi 5.1 and unRaid 4.7 install, since it doesn't not support direct passthrough, I had to use the raw disk mapping to map 3 drive for unRaid, there are 3 questions I want to ask. 1) My setup page does not shows any information on my disk/model and temperature, is it normal? 2) After an hour of so, the green ball lights starts flashing, I presume it entered into spin down mode, however, in the log, there are a some error message: Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: mdcmd (7527): spindown 0 (Routine) Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: md: disk0: ATA_OP_STANDBYNOW1 ioctl error: -22 (Errors) Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: mdcmd (7528): spindown 1 (Routine) Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: md: disk1: ATA_OP_STANDBYNOW1 ioctl error: -22 (Errors) Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: mdcmd (7529): spindown 2 (Routine) Nov 28 21:30:11 unRAID kernel: md: disk2: ATA_OP_STANDBYNOW1 ioctl error: -22 (Errors) Nov 28 21:30:21 unRAID emhttp: mdcmd: write: Invalid argument (Other emhttp) Are my drive really spinned down? If not, are there anything I can do about it? 3.) I didn't manage to install the vm-tools, and in the Esxi console summary shows installed - 3rd party, but after a while, it changed it back to Not running - not install, am I doing anything wrong? I actually like the concept of unRaid and the performace is splendid, and I am thinking of getting a pro license if I can resolve those 3 issues . Many Thanks
November 29, 201213 yr Spin down and temperature control do not work with RDM'd disks. Also you will not be able to see anything but a VMWare designation for the drive info. Can't help you with VMWare tools.
