Red ball after upgrading a disk [SOLVED]

Featured Replies

I upgraded a disk in my array (not the red-balled one) yesterday.

I then initiated a parity check, and some point through it red-balled one of my disks with write errors.

I have attached my syslog.

I cannot get the smart report to execute, the drive seems unresponsive.  I have attached the error message the smart report generates.

I am hoping it is a cabling (power or sata) issue, a very similar issue happened after another drive upgrade a few weeks ago.

I believe my next steps are to shut down the server, replace the sata cable, re-seat the power cable, then boot back up.  Do I then need to re-build onto this drive?

When I stopped the array, the red-balled device showed no disk, unraid could not find the disk at all.

I powered down and re-seated the power and sata connectors.

Booted back up, the device is now available.

I ran the smart report, it ran and it is attached, please confirm whether this disk is still good or if it needs replacement.

Thank you!

SMART looks ok. Rebuild disk onto itself.

Re-build started, thank you for checking the SMART report for me.

Not sure why the disk dropped, power and sata seemed fine when I opened the case.

Oh well, re-build will be done in 10 hours.
