December 1, 201213 yr First time user and looking to scrounge around for parts, then I saw this mobo at my local store. I'm thinking about building a mid-size unraid with about 4-6 hdds, maybe more in the future. I have an athlon 64 x2 and an Athlon II (quad core). I'm hoping this mobo can support 3tb or 4tb hdds. http://microcenter.com/product/398235/M5A97_R20_Socket_AM3_ATX_AMD_Motherboard Is this board good at all?
December 2, 201213 yr Nice looking board, almost making me regret going cheap on my build. The 6 SATA ports is nice, although you won't see any benefit from 6 gb/s SATA with HDDs. The onboard network controller is the Realtek RTL811F (according to Newegg) and that may be too new for unRAID. You might want to test your google-fu as to whether unRAID 5.x has any issues with it before you decide on the purchase. EDIT: Of course, if you can't resist the board be sure to pick up a gigabit NIC, preferably Intel PCIx. This little baby is affordable and looks to be well supported in unRAID: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106033. I should probably have one on hand just on general principle.
