Time to upgrade?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I'm using unRAID for more than two years now and I really love it. My server is based on a Supermicro C2SEE, Celeron 2.5 GHz processor, 4gb of ram and and a saslp card. Currently the array has a size of 25TB.

However, I the system is not very responsive, even with a cache drive. It's kind of slow. That's why I was thinking about an upgrade to a newer mainboard / cpu combination with more power.

Do you think an F1A75-V with an A8 quad core processor will speed up the server?

Cheers, Chris

It may be better for other people to help you if you can explain what you mean by 'not very responsive'.

slow as in file transfer speed is slow? or slow as in you have some plug ins there that don't run too well?

depending on which one it is, you may not have to upgrade the hardware too much

... biggest issue are Time Machine Backups, which are really slow.

And the mounting of shares on a remote computer is also very slow. Write and read speeds could also be better.

Chris

What's the write/read speed you are getting?

... will check the exact numbers and then I report back.

Okay.

Just as a comparison, I don't use a cache drive, but I get the read speed of 80 - 90 mb/s and the write speed of 15 - 35 mb/s.

If you get about what I get without a cache drive, even if you upgrade the mobo and other components, it may not improve too much.
